Incarnate (2016) is an American horror/thriller directed by Brad Peyton and produced by Blumhouse and Universal Pictures.. The story revolves around Dr. Ember played by Aaron Eckhart trying to find a demon named "Maggie" in order to trap the demon and avenged the death of his son and wife.
The film moves fast enough to catch audience's attention while keeping it somber and dark. Unlike other demon possessions or exorcism"movies; this one takes a different take on the subject. Personally, I am not a big fan of the demon possession genre, due to how repetitive and similar the plots and effects look in most possession films.
Incarnate focuses more on the victim than on the exorcism itself. I always wondered while the person is possessed; what's happening to the soul/person's psyche. This film provides one of the answers that I wanted to see in films for quite some time; which is the universe inside the possessed victim's world.
Also it is extremely smart that they have their lead Dr. Ember (Eckhart) in the wheelchair in their real world; but in the possessed world he is able to walk. That way we know if he is actually in reality or inside the victim's head.
I would give it a 5 out of 5; only if the ending was executed better. Not sure is it left like this for a sequel or it is just a hanger ending. It would have been better if they just ended the film three mins earlier. I am not going to give out any ending spoilers, because this one is worth to check out for sure.
